| Overview Signal transduction Signal transduction and cancer Signal transduction inhibitors (STIs) Multi-signal transduction regulators (STRs) Phenoxodiol |
Signal transduction inhibitors (STIs) STIs are regarded as the next generation of anti-cancer drugs. The concept is simple - if the ongoing survival of the cancer cell is being driven by the malfunctioning (usually over-expression) of certain key signal transduction processes, then developing drugs that target and block those over-reacting processes should switch off the cancer process. For most human cancers, if STIs are to provide a worthwhile solution, it seems almost certain that effective anti-cancer therapies will need to be cocktails of different STIs, with each STI targeting a different signal transduction pathway. Given the current state of development of this field, this prospect is not immediate. |
